A Canticle For Leibowitz - Walter M. Miller Jr
I seem to be on a theme of post - apocalyptic stories, must be something to do with the economic climate!
This Hugo Award Winning book was written in 1961 and is based during the 'age of simplification' where the remaining population rise up against any form of academia and technology blaming them for causing the apocalypse.
Similar to the dark ages, it is left to religious orders to preserve history by preserving and transcribing anything they find.
Well far too esoteric for me - that was a tough read, if you are into traditional Sci-Fi then it is probably for you but I struggled!
